“Curonian Spit. Enchanting space, it gives me a feeling as if an earth thrust is disappearing and a state of weightlessness, as if swallowing time and allowing a very vivid sense of the divine breath of eternity... It is like a mysterious door that opens a space of joyful peace and fullness, where the observer and the image seem to merge into one, a mere presence. The infinite space that opens up and the distinctive light that lingers embraces and dissolves into itself. The images of this region are so unique in structure, colour, rhythm, "sound", and the squeaks and snorts, as well as in the harmony of the whole, that infinite desire emerges to find a visual expression for them in painting... I can look at those mesmerizing landscapes endlessly, never getting tired of them, no matter what time of year. I am always drawn return here as much as I am drawn to explore this theme in my paintings.”
- Aušra Andziulytė
Aušra Andziulytė (1961) is a representative of an abstract art. She has been participating in exhibitions since 1987, has held over 30 solo exhibitions and participated in dozens of international exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. After Lithuania regained its independence, she took part in one of the first groups of women artists - Keturios (1990-1996). Aušra Andziulytė is also renown from her curatorial activities. For several years she organized an international plein-air painting workshop in memory of the artist A. Samuolis, and for several years she curated the interdisciplinary symposium "Sąnašas", in 2007-2009 she carried out the project "Hints" in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. The artist's work is characterized by rich colours, free painting, and motifs from nature (sea, mountains, forests), as the artist herself says: "Space and light are the two most important things for me. I always try to convey them."
