On 16–20 of January (2019) for the first time gallery “Meno parkas” (Kaunas / Dusseldorf) will going to participate at modern and contemporary art fair "London Art Fair". In “Art Projects” section (stand P10), “Meno parkas” will present installation composed of artworks by two authors, who came from different generations – Česlovas Lukenskas and Povilas Ramanauskas.

In this project they are researching ideological symbols from different approaches, creating esthetic solutions and using experimental technologies for expression of their ideas. Č. Lukenskas “Cremates” are made from natural materials, his works are monochromatic, P. Ramanauskas “Flags”– colorful and futuristic, but they complement each other well. Inerasable history as a fact and finding one‘s place in ongoing today is the theme on the stage.
Česlovas Lukenskas is rethinking main symbols of European culture: “essential ideological symbols / icons / signs, touching in particular traumatic experiences of human in recent ages. Signs pool to demolish representatives and identities of other signs. For some mythologems, victims and executioners, eternities and dusts of temporary, renouncing the highest humanity values, finds themselves in the face of question of the meaning of existence without answers. The only answer is repentance. Lord, have mercy on us.”
Already classic of Lithuanian contemporary, Česlovas Lukenskas maintain cherishing wildness and particular chaos. Artist uses recycled materials for his “Cremates”. He puts various burnt wooden shapes, baring symbolic meaning, objects under the glass and exposes it. Česlovas Lukenskas, who is one of pioneers of contemporary Lithuanian art and reformers, operates here good quantity (a lot!) of framed burnt wooden objects, what may refer conservation of the meaning.
Povilas Ramanauskas represents young artists generation, he is daring, rebellious painter, always provoking and searching for new, extreme ways of expression, for new ways to reach spectators‘ attention. He calls them and wakes them up to make a change. Artists explains his “Flexible Painting” series as referring “both in a direct way, to the physical possibilities of these works, and in a conceptual way, to the wider possibilities of contemporary painting, as well as the versatility of painting as a medium”. About painting as something that does not stand still, and about painting having its own life. While absorbing other media, while mixing with other visual expressions, painting still remains. Painting is a very large, flexible and wide-ranging medium. The boundaries of painting, the search for its expansion through other media. Povilas has been looking for different ways, surfaces, and shapes to extend painting. His recent development of “Flexible Painting” reaches his own goals both in technical and conceptual terms.
For this project P. Ramanauskas constructs flags using his “Flexible Painting” as a manifestation of viability, as social critics towards apathy or torpidity of his peers.
Česlovas Lukenskas (b. 1959) – installations, objects, actions and performance artist, who has musical education. He is one of pioneers of contemporary Lithuanian art and reformers, member of meaningful artists group - "Post Ars", who trembled in in art scene around 1990s and maintains it while being a dean at Vilnius Academy of Arts.
Povilas Ramanauskas (b. 1987) is a young, active artist, who has been improving his vocational levels methodically: since completing his undergraduate studies at the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts, where he also gained his Master’s degree in painting, he has been diligently taking part in group exhibitions, showing enthusiasm in holding solo shows, typically creating installations, objects, and paintings. In June 2017, Ramanauskas received the Young Painter Prize at ArtVilnius’17 international contemporary art fair where he presented his "Flexible Painting".
