From 14 to 24 November, Barcelona hosts one of the most important art events in Europe, the LOOP Barcelona Festival, to which Meno Parkas Gallery returns again. This year gallery presenting two video films by the artist Simona Žemaitytė: "Lovebinge" (2022) will be shown at the 21st edition of LOOP FAIR, one of the main projects of the festival, and which will be held on November 21-23 at the "Almanac Barcelona" hotel, the second film "Feedback" (2022) is presented in the festival program at the TPK Art i Pensament Contemporary.
Simona Žemaitytė's “Lovebinge” is a 23-minute video installation - an urban opera capturing the rhythm of post-pandemic London. Filmed after the first wave of COVID-19, the project became a cathartic experience for various actors, friends and acquaintances from Žemaitytė's creative circle, exploring themes of intimacy, addiction and complex relationships in a busy metropolis.
For “Feedback”, Simona Žemaitytė used the personal video archive of London-based experimental music artist Saulus Čemolonskas (1964-2017), in which he narrates stories of migration, creative exploration and the lasting impact of unconventional living. After escaping the USSR illegally via Israel, he spent many years in the UK as a stateless person. Feedback is not only a documentation of Saul's life, but also an exploration of the places that have shaped him.
Simona Žemaitytė (1984) is a Lithuanian artist-filmmaker. Her work was previously awarded at 15th Tallinn Print Triennial and nominated at Sheffield Doc Fest. She exhibited internationally, including Oberhausen, 13th Kaunas Biennial; Centrala Birmingham, Kasa Gallery Istanbul; Galata Perform Istanbul; BAFTA, RichMix, London, CAC Lithuania; Gallery Meno Parkas in Kaunas; Galleries Vartai, Malonioji and Kaire-Desine in Vilnius; Riga Cinema Shorts; CreArte traveling exhibition in Pardubice, Linz, Genoa. She recently (April 2023) defended her PhD thesis at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. She is teaching at Vilnius Art Academy. She lives and works in London and Naples.
