S MOM event series. Exclusion
We demand really much from ourselves, running, working,
creating, washing, loving, cooking, caring. We forget ourselves.
This year has been hard for everyone. And for us too - working mothers,
creating mothers. Without kindergarten, without babysitters, without friends
and relatives, it has been very difficult to find or to make a space for
ourselves, both inside and outside.
The S MOM platform was born from the search of a space for creative exchange,
community and support for each other. S MOM is not only about motherhood, but
much more about ourselves within motherhood and about the uncomfortable topics
that surround it.
Exclusion - the word that comes to our mind is not loneliness, because a mother
is never alone, but isolation, when one is separated from one's daily routine,
rituals, encounters with people and from ourselves. Although we were not alone,
we longed, struggled and finally came to terms with a new reality, and now, in
nature and in community, we will try to turn all that into creative energy.
Will it work?
This year Guadalupe Aldrete (MX/) returns to the S MOM creative camp with
Leonora and we are joined by Diana Soria Hernandez (MX/FI) and her daughter
Althea.
After spending two years in the beautiful Bite Vilnius Residency, this year we
move to the Lukenskų Namai, where we are welcomed by the artist Česlovas
Lukenskas and his wife Rūta Lukenskienė, a teacher, biochemist, and a scholar
of the ancient traditions of the Lithuanian people.
We have no doubt that this environment will inspire new creative works and will
further strengthen and expand the cooperation that was born last year. This
year, V. Tamoševičiūtė and G. Aldrete are joining creative and organisational
forces on the S MOM platform. The works of the new artists participating in the
performance events in 2021 will be on display already this autumn, not only in
Kaunas, but also in Vienna and Berlin.
