Marina Abramović. The Lecture “Performance. Past. The present”

The performance art fans should pay attention: one of the most impressive “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” events is just around the corner. The open meeting with the conceptual and performance artist Marina Abramović will be in the Žalgirio arena on March 31st, at 6 PM (EET time). During the meeting, Marina will give the lecture “Performance. Past. The present”.

Marina Abramović is one of the most famous contemporary artists and one of the brightest performances art world. Her bravery, revolutionary ideas and uncompromising works are the reasons why she is on the top of the contemporary art world. Marina Abramović is constantly breaking the walls between the audience and the artist. The artist is looking for purity of consciousness, enlightenment, and personal transformation. She powerfully highlights the importance of the artist's role in the artwork.

During the open lecture on March 31st in the Žalgirio arena, Marina Abramović will overview the history of performance art: she will define performance art, will discuss the origins and the evolution of this type of art. Finally, the artist will look into the role of performance art nowadays and the possible transformations in the future.

The open meeting and the lecture are organized on the occasion of Marina Abramović’s exhibition “Memory of Being “. The exhibition will be presented in the Kaunas Picture Gallery. The exhibition will be on display from March 30th to July 31st, 2022.
